Vénus au Petit Satyre

From the Palimpsests/1 series, this work evokes a recurring theme in the history of painting: the depiction of a “nymph” surprised by a satyr or “faun”. Here, a scene of an erotic nature, where a naked and archaic “Venus” faces what remains of the caricatured figure of a little “satyr-faun” who tries to seduce her. Remains of a representation threatened with ruin, but which affirms its resistance and its sustainability. The scene refers to a past inscribed in the material. The surface of the work is polished and vitrified in a very hard resin, the color becomes phenomenological. Everything is present enough to hold the eye and lead it into the details of the textures as if engraved and worn by time. What emerges, not without humor, is a figuration beckoning us from its distant memory and pathos.
