This work could well be called 'this is not a seated man'. For a long time I was unable to see the white image of a seated figure that most viewers saw first.
Basically I had painted the profile of a child cub that dissolves into this intense background. Little guy in an education system he doesn't understand much about. He loses his head in the violence that surrounds him.
Painted at the start of the pandemic, he wears a mask.
I gave him a muzzle, he is silent. He has mouse ears, a whimsical, ridiculous accessory, like donkey ears. These accessories largely take the front and form by chance ‘this seated thinking human’.
With my name Der der ian, I was easily called at school, the der of the der, the Last of the Last. I was a nice dunce who felt humiliated by the school system. I made myself this shy and confused little creature who suffers and waits in the background. At fifteen I left general education to enroll in an international classical dance school. The same year I had my first professional contract.
