The Golden calf

A recent work which is the result of a long production process. Numerous phases followed one another until the final “palimpsest” state. But this has been partly reworked, in such a way that the underside appears in certain details such as the decomposing head at the top right. The theme of the “Golden Calf” in the Bible is a symbol of idolatry and universal greed. Ironically, the “Golden Calf” takes on the appearance of a donkey in this work. The pictorial treatment by overloading droplets of yellow and resinous (golden) paint partly acts as a metonymy for the accumulation of wealth. The characters in the background receive the same treatment as invaded, contaminated by the phenomenon. And so much so that the third head on the right already seems to be decomposing, revealing the skull...
