Work from the Brûlées series. (see the general presentation of the artist). Here this leftover canvas painted in several layers (a duo), has suffered damage from controlled burns. There representation of the two figures, Antigone and Creon are identifiable despite the erosion of the scene. Antigone, heroine of a tragedy by Sophocles, fiercely opposes the powers of her uncle Creon. She wants to return the funeral rite to her dead brother, Polynices (unfailing loyalty to her family members). And she knows she's risking her life by doing it. Creon's cruelty is manifest and the holes, the gaps appear in the representation as at the place of the mouth and the skull. Courageous, frank and civic, this young woman opposes the tyranny of power. This “skin of paint”, this pictorial vestige refers to Greek mythology and echoes forgotten myths and tragedies, but which still irrigate our culture.
